Upcoming Shows

Pembroke Players second season of shows offers a captivating exploration of the journey of womanhood, showcasing the complexities and transformations that women experience from childhood to maturity.

Kicking off the season is the beloved classic "Anne of Green Gables," which follows the spirited and imaginative Anne Shirley as she navigates her formative years in the quaint town of Avonlea. Through her adventures and misadventures, audiences witness the trials and triumphs of childhood, highlighting the importance of friendship, identity, and the challenges of growing up.

Next in the lineup is Shakespeare's "Two Gentlemen of Verona," a problematic romantic comedy that delves into themes of love and loyalty. While the narrative primarily focuses on the relationships between two young men, the female characters in the play—especially the resourceful and strong-willed Julia—And the captivating and intelligent Silvia—embody the journey toward self-discovery and empowerment. Julia’s transformation from a lovesick girl to a confident woman reflects the complexities of romantic relationships and personal growth, while Sylvia captures what it is to be a strong woman in a mans world.

Rounding out the season is Aristophanes' provocative comedy "Lysistrata," a powerful exploration of women's strength and solidarity. In this bold narrative, Lysistrata leads a group of women in a sex strike to end the Vietnam War. This play challenges traditional gender roles and highlights the power of women to effect change in society, emphasizing their journey from being marginalized to taking charge of their destinies.

Together, these three productions create a rich tapestry that illustrates the evolution of womanhood. From the innocence of childhood to the strength of maturity, Pembroke Players invites audiences to reflect on the unique and transformative experiences that shape women’s lives.
